I always knew my readers had a heart. You were worrying about Bantay who went missing during the flood.

Bantay is swimming

He is OK and he's back. And he's made of plaster.

Sorry to get you all worried. He was a gift from my Tita Noly. He has been guarding our home for more than a year. He still kind of gives our visitors a minor heart attack sometimes.

Tita Noly gave me this dog that doesn't have to be fed

Our house is still a mess. Garbage has piled up in front and my driver says it's gonna take a while.
My driver's daughter lives in Marikina. He went there today and said they're really devastated. Garbage is everywhere, so basically the garbage men have too much on their hands.

Here's what I want to propose. I know a lot of you are thinking of or currently doing charity. Please give your garbage men a little something when they collect your garbage. I'm very sure they're working triple time doing one of the most hazardous jobs in the world.

Today S&R was busy with people buying relief goods. I had a lump in my throat seeing all these good people doing something for others.

One of my readers wrote this:

"Please remind those who are directly involved in the distribution of food, clothing and other goods to the victims of the Manila flood, to make sure that all 'disposables', such as plastic bags, bottles, bowls, cups, spoons, forks, styro cups, tin cans, etc. are disposed of properly. Can't help noticing it on TV—yes, flood victims throwing empty plastic cups and bowls on the muddy street! When will they ever learn?"

My two cents:
If you're gonna give canned goods, are you gonna give them a can opener?
This really worries me.

It's great that people are giving. I do think there is another way. Charity begins at home. We decided to give our staff money at home and at Pepper Lunch because everyone is affected. This is a direct way of helping. My driver can help his family in Marikina. I also found out the bodyguard's family had no food and water today. He was so grateful to buy a sack of rice for them. So before we reach out to others, find out if there is anybody in the household that needs help.

It looks like another storm is coming our way.
Watch here.

What can I do about it?
1) Pray that it gets averted, diminishes or goes away. Pray this with your families.
2) I've bought milk and diapers for our little one.
3) Stock up on water.
4) Minimize going out. Not looking forward to many events at this point. Not to mention, Fashion Week is so irrelevant right now.
5) I've decided not to buy that hat on my wish list. Before you shop, think of others.
6) Watch the weather reports.
7) Collect old clothes and stuff you would otherwise put on garage sale and just give them away.
8) Go to church and pray.
9) Show kindness to others.

We're going to need all the help we can in the next few weeks. Let's please pray for normalcy, kindness and mercy, especially for the worst-hit victims in Marikina.
I'll be posting updates on Fabella and will set up a Paypal button for those abroad who want to donate here for Marikina.

I'm glad Bantay is back! :)

I want to volunteer nga sana. I want to help. I feel useless just watching it on TV. Pero I don't know, I'm a little scared. But I think I should just go!

akala ko totoong tuta, pinakita ko pa sa officemates ko at naantig ang kanilang puso...tawanan na naman sa bloopers ko!!!

happy for bantay! =)

Miss C, can I copy the prayers? I'll print it and give to the people here in our place. I'll also post it in my blog.

let's continue praying for our kababayans.

yes please help spread the prayer

Good to know that Bantay is safe too. Hmm, maybe I should get one of those. My kids have been wanting a dog but I don't think we're ready to have one yet (a live one, that is)..

Spent the afternoon with my kids sorting through their clothes and was able to pack a lot of stuff for donation. We'll be bringing it to a nearby drop off spot tomorrow.

crap! i thought that was a real dog!

At first look you'd reely assume that Bantay is real dog. Good thing he wasn't. He looked so kawawa in the flood.

Let's all pray and help the victims of typhoon ondoy. I know a lot of people in Marikina and Pasig who lost everything. The waters reached their ceilings. I'm really thankful 'cause they're all safe :)

Just a tip, I have this constantly on my igoogle: http://www.solar.ifa.hawaii.edu/Tropical/

Through the site you can see the different storms brewing or coming our way. Actually last Thursday I was already worried because the pictures predicted that the storm was heading directly to the metro.

thank you

I am speechless right now!
bantay=made of resin or plasater!
oh my gulay....i thought he was a real dog.
ms. c....please put PLAS-TAY inside your house before another flood comes & he RUN/SWIM away again.
ok?

You're so right, Cecile. Charity begins at home. We don't have to look far to help. Our own employees, helpers, teachers of our kids, etc...the very people who help us everyday.
God bless us all!

Cant agree with you more. Our cook's aunt has a home in Rizal where she stays during her days off and it was flooded with water when she got there. What angers her now is, apparently no representative from Rizal helped them and their neighbors out. In her words "nasaan ang mga taga gubyerno kung kelangan mo sila?". One of our shop girls had ALL her things wiped out because of the flood-- water in her place is still above waist. Everything muddy. She came by today to our shop as we had requested for her to come by, and she was in tears and was disheveled. We had to get her a plastic bin to put all the goods and clothes so they won't wade with her in mud when she heads back out. Who is the mayor/ governor/ of Rizal? I think they need to show up to help all these people. No food was sent their way yet, and there were some kind farmers who had kamoteng kahoy and brought it over to the neighbors of my shop girls for food. It's really terrible

Some sardines and pork and beans come in tetra-pack. That should be more helpful. Easy to open and ready to eat. Especially since some of the affected areas have no means to cook. Would also suggest crackers, cereal and tetra-packs of juice and milk for the children.

As for charity beginning at home, I know of an employer who bought two rubber boats to do search and rescue for his employees that are still unaccounted for. He has also donated water and food and set up a means for calamity loans. The first half of the 13th month pay is also being released next week.

that's good to know. I know many employers have a heart. let's spread the word out there

Crackers and bread are good. Also those muffins in separate packs are good. Bottled water is good. Because they're much easier to eat, no need to cook or prepare anymore. For those who want to give food, I think perhaps cooked food is best if they want to send them directly to those who need it-- in evac centers etc. Pack them in plastic with disposable fork and spoon and make sure the evac centers also have trash bins so they need not throw anywhere. So much to be done. It's daunting, but we are getting there.

evac center sounds funny :)

Lol it's supposed to be pronounce E (long E)- vac, not Ehvac hahaha.

good to know bantay is back... Stay safe evryone!

read in the paper today that Metrobank and BDO will give P10 million each. SM will give P10 for every P500 purchase till the end of the week (now this will become a lot i hope because SM is everywhere)

kind hearted people are everywhere
