Mrs. Zafra
lets cry

I've just received word that our beloved Assumption P.E. teacher, Mrs. Lulu Zafra passed away yesterday.
For years, Mrs. Zafra struggled with diabetes, and Assumption girls thought of various fund-raising events to help her, such as "Dancing With Zafra".

Mrs. Zafra

I'm so sad to hear of her passing. She was such a kind soul.
In high school we were all required to wear shorts during P.E.
Conscious of my skinny legs (hindi pa uso ang waif noon), I dreaded P.E. and feigned having my period every week to be excused from removing my skirt.
How one gets her period every week is highly impossible, but Mrs. Zafra must've understood.
I graduated without anybody seeing my legs in high school. I love her for that.
I'm sure she is in heaven right now.
Assumption girls can pay their last respects at Holy Trinity in Sucat.
God bless her.

That's sad news. I heard she was sick nga.

I remember she used to go out of her way to think of something for me to do to make up for the PE activities I couldn't join because of my asthma. Just so I wouldn't flunk PE.

She'll be missed.

in college I had to get a doctor's certificate so I could do art instead of sports.

The best thing about Mrs. Zafra was that she never thought the worst of us. While we sometimes gave other teachers and nuns reason to think we were always up to no good, Mrs. Zafra always gave us the benefit of the doubt.
May God bless her soul and take care of the ones she left behind.

so true. I don't think she judged anyone.

I was crushed to hear the news of Mrs. Z's passing. She taught me that being a woman of "girth" was no hindrance to dancing, and gracefully I might add. It was only Mrs. Zafra who could have made me dance a jazz number to the theme song of SWAT in front of the entire Mother Rose Hall audience! To this day, whenever I hear that song I get goosebumps and remember her. PS Arthdoc was part of that number too! ;-)

i'm sure she's in a happier place now. i remember her being graceful, and has extremely long patience teaching us all. i was surprised to see her recent photos, she lost all that weight. i'd like to remember her as the mrs. zafra back in high school.

so sad to hear about her passing away.
we need more people like her- you are right, she never judged anyone.
she also understood why I couldn't wear shorts in PE.
she was one of my favorite teachers of all time in AC- together with Ms. Tantoco and Mrs. Acuba.
i'm sure she will go straight to heaven.

May she rest in peace...
I recall how she would patiently wait till I get my 'yoga' poses right. She was of the coolest teacher in AC highS.

Whoa that's sad news. Not only she taught PE but she also taught Work Education or Home Economics in Assumption Grade School. She taught us cross stitch and how to make throw pillows. She'll be missed. =(
