Glutathione, the Movie

It's a shame that KC Concepcion was handed a dull role as her first vehicle into the silver screen.
For The First Time, was not cheesy, not memorable, and will not be a classic like her parents' first two team-ups.

You can't help but compare her to Sharon Cuneta. She has her Sharon moments where she looks and sounds just like her mom, and she has her Gabby moments where she, uh, never mind...

In her blog, Jessica Zafra summed it up like this:

Feta Cheese-Off
By Jessica Zafra

KC Concepcion is pretty.
Richard Gutierrez is pretty.
Greece is pretty.
The Richard Prince bag is pretty.

Then the movie has a nervous breakdown, and everything goes to hell. The light romantic comedy suddenly turns into heavy melodrama. Richard makes corny speeches about love that would make greeting cards kill themselves for shame. KC weeps and weeps as if she’s just realized what sort of movie she’s in. Whatever charm the movie had is drowned in mush. The theme song blares incessantly to remind you to buy the ringtone. Philip Salvador is kidnapped by aliens and replaced with a ham and cheese sandwich.

The rest is here.

* * *

Last night Grace and I dragged each other to watch at Robinson's Galleria at 7:10 pm. The cinema was about 20% full.
I don't know who wrote the screenplay, but none of the characters were endearing.
A rich corporate girl (KC) falls in love with a guy who is not cute and has no redeeming qualities (Richard Gutierrez), so no kilig factor.
Her father (Philip Salvador) treats her like unbelievable crap.
Can not stand that side story of Candy Pangilinan and her penpal in Greece.
The movie was supposedly shot in Greece, but one wonders about the Samsung refrigerator in the kitchen. Let's not forget the "convenient" product placements such as KC opening her kikay kit to reveal Garnier toiletries, the part where she takes pictures using her Sony Cybershot, etc...
The "love" story goes nowhere. No chemistry between Richard and KC and the movie ends in the strangest way.

What struck me the most were:
1) How KC's boobs were all over the place. Shocking, considering her mom wore jeans to the beach in her movies.

IMG_2408

2) How ashen everyone was, like they had mega doses of glutathione.

Too bad for KC. She should've done a remake of Dear Heart but not with Richard
Gutierrez. Geoff Eigenmann, who appears in a cameo role, was even cuter.

Anyway, the question is, have you MET?

sayang. i heard nga it was awful. but more than the writing and the characters, im sure its also because richard gutierrez can't act. (as seen with his other movies---which i watched. hhehe.)

Hey, TJ Trinidad was also there. I just enjoyed the movie na lang because TJ, Geoff and Richard were there. Hehe. So annoying pala to watch this date movies alone, couples and groups always asked me to move one or two seats so that they can sit together. I got so feed up I decided to just say "May kasama ako e", whenever they asked me to move. Even if my bag of chips and soda lang and katabi ko. Hehe.

Noel

Richard's sideburns look so annoying!

He's trying so hard to match his Matinee Idol Dad.

really sayang. I think nothing beats the chemistry of sharon & gabby noon:)

you know what i also hate? kc and richard were always ANGRY in the first part of the movie. i'm sure they were trying to achieve some witty banter between them, but seriously it was annoying. there are sexy fights and word exchanges but in this movie, completely flat and walang libog. no chemistry at all.. they are not kate hepburn and spencer tracy, sorry.

and can we just mention how "offensive" and corny the script was? it was part autobiographical(as seen in "diego" aka rico blanco) and part political commentary(seth alexander villaraza, nuff said).

everybody warned me about how bad it was, i just didn't expect it to be this bad. i am first to admit that i loved dear heart and thought kc could pull off a dear heart. BUT NO. a very special love nalang sana pinanood natin! :p

i haven't seen this movie and doubt i will.

saw a very special love and i have to say it was the first and only filipino movie i enjoyed. cheesy kilig. but worth the P150+popcorn. (and im not saying that because i was in and not in the movie). the actors were good.

im a sharonian too...

how about a souped-up To Love Again for KC and Geoff.

absolutely no chemistry between richard gutierrez. i think KC was too afraid of mama anabelle.

2 eden cheese/monay sandwiches, pls. with mayo para easier to swallow.
plus 2 cream puffs in case bitin pa tayo sa pagka-umay.
oh, hamon nga pala...jamon serrano? prosciutto?
no, de lata na lang para mas fit sa kanilang dalawa.

eat all u can, no throwing up,
now, burp the dighay of sayangness and cheesiness.

c'est la vie.

this is it, i will not be watching the movie anymore. i first intended to watch this, but comes this review. i will just watch a very special love instead (if it is still showing). :)

i still wanna see A Very Special Love

That's so sad, esp since KC had such a nice name in the movie.

If I have a degree and cultured in France, RICH and sophisticated, why enter in showbiznez/esp Phil shobiznez?

I just dont get it.

honey malaki ang money sa showbiz!!

Bakit nyo pa kasi pinanood? ayan nadismaya tuloy kayo.
Anyway, Panoorin nyo nga pala ang movie ko ha!

IS IT REALLY EFFECTIVE?

hehehe

ms. cvs. i was just in greece. actually nauna ako ng ilang linggo sa santorini bago nag-shoot si kc and richard doon. and this i could attest. may samsung fridge sa greece. and garnier products are everywhere in the supermarkets. yon lang pow.

and after reading all the comments here, ayaw ko na yatang panoorin and movie nila kahit na may premiere sila next week on my part of the planet

oh ok. ang chaka kasi nung hotel room doon, especially the banyo. at parang walang guests yung "hotel". I thought they may have done the indoor shots in Tagaytay. lol

could be that they shot the film at one of those pipit hotels. isa lang kasi ang malaking hotel sa santorini, the hotel atlantis right on the caldera (sa preview yung sinasabi ni kc with matching tears na sa tuktok ng santorini). my blue mermaid picture here's a store display near the caldera. it's supposed to be a venetian mermaid.

And her spaghetti strap kept getting pulled down and she kept on pulling them up. Kinda distracting.

The Sony bit was forgiveable, at least it was called for. But the Garnier was too in-your-face. No subtlety at all. Why show a bagful of products when one container could send the same message?

me I love those product placements cause they're funny, like when Kris Aquino serves Chunkee corned beef in a horror movie. Love eat!

I didn't like how Geoff was dressed up in the film. He looked like he was going to a social rather than to the office.

there was this icky bellboy jacket. I wanted to take a picture of it.

Wow. I can't believe there's a forum here dissecting the movie. Hehehe.

i had that pic of gabby and sharon above in my wallet during high school. tsk tsk tsk...

mas maganda pa yung a very special love. i swear.

i cannot understand talaga for the first time. it's so heavy! this movie is all hype. i wanna kill the person who wrote the script. when me and my workm8s watched nung second day, wala nang pila and super konti na lang ang tao. the word got around siguro na pangit yung film.

tsaka bakit ganon? pag umiyak si KC yung buong mukha nya basa? even the hair? LOL

i heard a lot of bad stuff about the movie. the hype was so much pa naman.

i think i'll just wait for the pirated dvd.

Why do all Filipino movies have to start with one of the following:

1, The lead star exercising
2, The lead star cooking
3, The lead star taking a shower/brushing her teeth
4, The lead star driving/commuting
5, The lead star rushing to work

Okay, we get it you start your day early!

Simulang-simula pa lang cliché na!

its that bad? im a sharon fan pa naman and you want the daughter to succeed : ) hehe, anyway of topic but kinda close : ) they showed Dear Heart a few days ago on Cinema One, april, papa, the phone calls ( what was gabby's name?) the yaya hand cuffed at a shop in greenhills, hehehe kilig!

Ms. Chuva, I hear Mike was in the movie. He played a subordinate of KC. Totoo ba? I'd actually endure the movie to see him walk across the office:)

yes! Mike was there. I actually waited for his name on the credits

Nauseating. The trailer alone couldn't get me to watch the movie. What made it worse was the song...shock horror. I feel so sorry for the effort everyone put in on something that was such an obviously "bad stew." This is absolutely disappointing :-(
