Why we really went to Bangkok

I can't wait for 2008! I'm going to leave the fashion world, not as a consumer but as a retailer. I'm getting to that age where I just want to make fashion decisions for myself, and not customers.

The idea to enter another business came up when my husband and I felt that we wanted to have something we could run on our own as a couple, that we could eventually pass down to our kids.

Since my husband has been in the food industry for decades, we started thinking of an exciting food concept to introduce to the Philippines.
We traveled around Asia for ideas and tried to get a franchise in Singapore and Vietnam which did not work out.

Then one day I came upon Pam Pastor's post about her trip to Japan.
Pepper Lunch in Japan
This prompted me to write about Pepper Lunch which my family loved after trying in Singapore.
But it was really this comment that made me go to the Pepper Lunch site and see the Franchise button which wasn't there before.
I clicked on it and showed it to my husband. Wrote an email immediately and got a response right away. More emails later, we were on a trip to Singapore for an interview with the Suntory Group that owns it. (That's why I was obsessing about being corporate!)

Then the Suntory people came here and surveyed the malls. They loved Rockwell. So do we.
Jeroen and the Japanese
Recently we were invited to the opening of the newest Pepper Lunch at Bangkok's Central World.

From there we signed our Master Franchise Agreement. My husband and I now hold the Territory Franchise for Pepper Lunch Philippines. (Ok, you wanted to see me corporate, here it is!)

We will open in Rockwell around April 2008 at the Concourse or "food court" level at the Shakey's site, right in front of the supermarket. Watch this to get an idea...

This is the original fast steak concept from Japan, not to be confused with this copycat place in TriNoma (no offense).
So please come and taste Pepper Lunch next year! I know you'll love it. And if you don't eat meat, we have salmon and some kickass salads (not in photo). Price are in Singapore $$.

yes! huling-huli sha eating there!

We tried the one in Trinoma a couple of weeks ago. I was attracted kasi it was Japanese (oh lol) butI wasn't impressed. It was bland, lacking talaga. Mas masarap pa yung mga food joints around UST! I can't wait to try Pepper Lunch! Congratulations Miss Cecile!!!

I see Matcha Ice Cream!! Yummy!!

Congratulations and Best of luck on this endeavor! :)

Cecile,
Are you bringing Pepper Lunch to Manila? :)
I was curious when you first blogged about it, but the nearest location is in California, too far for a Southern gal like me.
If you are, good luck!
Tessa

cute mo naman signing the papers... you look so young chuva!

wow! i can't wait for this to open! everything looks yummy.

congratulations!

I was just in tokyo last september and loved pepper lunch!! Cant wait to try it here in Manila. Congratulations and expect lots of us to be trooping to rockwell for yummy pepper steak. :-) :-)

I'm someone who loves trying out new places to eat. I can't wait for Pepper Lunch to open here. *Excited*

And I must say, your corporate outfit is so cool and chica.

uy, thanks. effort yan

it's got "HUGE SUCCESS" written all over it. congrats!

sasadyain namin ang resto ninyo the next time we're in Manila for sure.

YAY!

hope you get good staff to go with the good food :D

hope so too. we're already looking for staff

Can't wait to try it. Congrats to you guys!

okay team CZ! lets all drag our arses to rockwell next year! =)

Just as you were tempted (and subsequently submitted) to open Pepper Lunch in the Philippines by a blog, your blog posting may be the reason why I'd open a Pepper Lunch franchise in the US din. Buti na lang I've never tried Pepper Lunch, but the You-Tube clip looked so good that I'd pitch the same idea to the hubby when he comes home tonight, haha. His favorite fast food place in Manila in the 80's was TokyoTokyo (?) right across from Manila Garden (we were young back then and were easily pleased).
Have never been to Rockwell either, ano ba, makauwi na nga.. :-)

i loved Tokyo Tokyo in the '80s when it was a tiny 8-seater. it was such a cool concept then.
Rockwell is really cool. you would love it.

wow that's cool. i guess i'll be eating there when i visit. :)

Congratz on the new business. I'll sure try it when I go home.

uy mukhang masarap hehehe at least may new food options na kami sa rockwell.

sana next is in greenhills para malapit sa amin :)

i've heard alot about pepper lunch but haven't really tried it (wala ako pamasahe, lol), since you're bringing em here in PI, i can now spoil myself on it.
tnx CZ!

ps. wanna also meet u up close in personal

i love pepper lunch! we have one in this asian plaza (north california). my favorite is the sashimi bento. i love looking at the map they have posted at the store where they have all the locations! i can't believe the philippines would now be there and i know (well not personally) the people who own it! that's insane.

good luck!

really? do they have the same logo? is this the one in Milpitas CA?

yay im so excited. this is going to be great, i can feel it. esp since jeroen knows a lot about steak. oh and my japanese friends know pepper steak kasi nga famous siya. ay kakain kami diyan when i go home.

bat walang pic of you wearing the cap, si jeroen lang? :P chica pa rin ang corporate look mo.

anyway i am very interested in the green tea ice cream!

no cap, kasi ang hair! effort.

Wow! Pictures pa lang ansarap na! Sana maabutan ko yung opening sa april pag-uwi ko. Congrats Ms. Cecille! :)

wow this is exciting :)

one shimofuri and one curry beef pepper rice please!
